Diversity & Inclusion

CREATING AN INCLUSIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

US Foods® is committed to creating a more inclusive work environment where everyone feels safe and valued, and ensuring that their voice matters.

Our success relies upon a diverse and dynamic workplace built on our Cultural Beliefs, which define how we live and create an equitable environment where all associates can grow and thrive.

We launched a Disrupting Bias training program to provide a common framework for recognizing and addressing bias in the workplace, with a focus on reaching associates across all levels and functions of the business. The PAUSE® Model, which is central to the training, helps reduce everyday bias by offering a step-by-step process to help an individual slow their internal reaction down, connect with their thoughts, challenge assumptions and make a more deliberate choice. This model will become central to our culture and how we think about our associates, talent management, recruiting and interviewing.

RESPECTFUL WORKPLACE TRAINING

In an effort to promote respectful communication and foster greater inclusion, we introduced an interactive Respectful Workplace training program. The red-yellow-green model helps associates learn what action to take when witnessing questionable behavior in the workplace. This model helps us think through the level of intervention needed, and the best way to respond to encourage respect for all associates.

EMPLOYEE RESOURCE GROUPS

employee resource groupsSince its inception, our ERG program has grown to include more than 3,000 members across 10 ERGs. In 2020, we expanded the program from our corporate offices to all US Foods locations across the country, enabling participation from our field and frontline associates. Leveraging virtual tools and resources, our ERGs conduct various company-wide events, ranging from heritage month celebrations to educational forums encouraging dialogue on issues of race and diversity in and outside of the workplace. As a result of the efforts of our ERG program, we trained 200 leaders to facilitate allyship and anti-racism workshops for corporate and field associates, including drivers and selectors. Additionally, we partnered with Asian Americans Advancing Justice, where we were able to offer Bystander Intervention to our associates in an effort to educate and inform them on the topics of anti-Asian American hate and xenophobic harassment.

We continue to expand the reach of the program and grow associate engagement in our 10 ERGs through virtual event participation and our field membership expansion.
