With communities across the country facing unprecedented challenges, US Foods® harnesses the power of food to empower communities in need with nourishment and opportunity.
As an extension of our promise to help our customers Make It, our Helping Communities Make It program enables US Foods to help meet the growing needs of this moment and make a meaningful difference where we live and work. Our efforts are focused on the areas where we can continue to make the greatest impact:
Hunger Relief
We believe we can help eliminate hunger in our communities. As a leading foodservice distributor, US Foods is uniquely positioned to help ensure food gets to the individuals and families who need it most. Throughout the year, we donate cash and product to Feeding America® food banks and other hunger-fighting organizations across the country, who share our mission to nourish those facing food insecurity.
Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN)
In July 2024, we announced an exciting new partnership with the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN). This marks our first national hunger relief partnership focused on supporting military families – a community disproportionately impacted by food insecurity. We selected MFAN for its innovative and community-driven approach to connecting military families with critical resources through collaborative and impactful engagement. According to MFAN’s 2023 Military Family Support Programming Survey, more than a quarter of active-duty military families (27.7%) have experienced food insecurity. We are honored to support MFAN in expanding its reach across military installations nationwide. Our funding directly supports MFAN’s Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Pantry Restock Box and Fresh Funds program, which helps connect military families to food and economic security resources during relocations – one of the most vulnerable times for food insecurity.
Feeding America
In September 2024, we announced an expanded national partnership with Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the United States. As part of our partnership, we provided Feeding America with funding to expand their highly innovative Direct to Neighbor locker project into seven additional communities by the end of 2024 and support. Feeding America’s MealConnect®, a mobile app developed by Feeding America helps donors, partner agencies and food banks coordinate efforts by connecting ready-to-donate food with local nonprofits in Feeding America’s network that are in need and able to accept donations. We also provide Feeding America food banks across the country with ongoing food and supply donations to help meet ongoing hunger relief efforts. We are honored to support Feeding America on their journey to bring innovative solutions for combating food insecurity to communities across the country.
Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD)

In addition to our national hunger relief partnerships, we are committed to fighting hunger at the local level. That's why in November 2024, we announced an enhanced hometown partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) focused on fighting hunger among the thousands of veterans across Cook County who are living below the poverty line and are at increased risk of experiencing food insecurity. As a significant contributor to GCFD's Veteran Food Programs and Services, our annual gift of $250,000 supports critical initiatives providing hope for heroes, including regular veteran food pantries at the Hines VA Hospital and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, as well as biannual food distributions at Veteran Standdown events where Chicago-area veterans can receive groceries, housing information, medical care, clothing and other vital resources.
Rethink Food
To further expand our hunger relief efforts, in 2025, we announced a new partnership with Rethink Food, a nonprofit organization that bridges the gap between restaurants with excess food and communities facing food insecurity. Rethink Food partners with local restaurants to purchase dignified meals made with surplus ingredients from the restaurant that are then delivered to surrounding food-insecure communities. Since its launch in 2017, Rethink Food has directed more than $138 million in purchased meals to local restaurants, converted more than 2.7 million pounds of excess food into meals, and distributed more than 30 million meals to food insecure communities across its Miami and New York networks. US Foods’ annual monetary contribution will make it the exclusive flagship partner to support the continued expansion of Rethink Foods’ innovative meal-making program across the Chicago area, home of US Foods’ headquarters.
Culinary Education
We believe we can empower the next generation of culinary talent. Our US Foods Scholars program awards financial support and professional development opportunities to outstanding students who need additional resources to pursue careers in the foodservice industry.
Since 2017, nearly $2.5 million in scholarships has been provided to more than 120 students pursuing degrees in culinary arts, baking and pastry, chef training and hospitality management. The company plans to award 20 scholarships in 2026, totaling $400,000.
Disaster Relief
We believe we can enable communities to recover faster. As an Annual Disaster Responder Program partner, US Foods aids in the sheltering and feeding of those left vulnerable in times of emergency and disaster by helping to ensure that the American Red Cross has the resources they need year-round to quickly mobilize before disaster strikes.
In 2025, US Foods introduced the "You Matter Fund," a company-funded associate assistance fund. The “You Matter Fund” provides individual grants to qualified US Foods associates to enable faster recovery from consequential financial hardships and emergencies.
Associate Engagement
At US Foods, we empower our associates to give back in their local communities through annual volunteerism and donation campaigns, and equip them with the resources they need to uplift their communities year-round. In 2025, US Foods launched its first-ever “Dollars for Doers” program, which rewards associate volunteer time with charitable funds that the associate can then donate to a charity of their choice. The company will also continue its associate engagement opportunities with three major company-wide giving events: Spring into Service, Hunger Action Month and the "Giving Gratitude" holiday drive.

Empowering Associates to Make a Difference in Their Communities
Spring Into Service
Spring Into Service invites associates and leaders to celebrate the start of spring by participating in an annual week of service to support food-insecure individuals and families throughout the communities in which we operate.
Hunger Action Month
Every September, US Foods supports Feeding America’s national Hunger Action Month with an associate engagement campaign focused on fighting hunger across the country through volunteerism, giving and awareness building.
Giving Gratitude
Giving Gratitude encourages associates to harness the power of gratitude throughout the holidays by sharing what they are thankful for to generate company matching donations to Feeding America and its network of food banks!
