Tofu Caprese Salad
- 3 tofu slices, grilled
- 3 basil leaves
- 3 tomato slices
- Cracked black pepper, to taste
- Sweet soy sauce, as needed
- Olive oil, as needed
Dot plate with soy sauce. Layer tomato, basil and grilled tofu on plate. Drizzle soy sauce and olive oil and season with salt and pepper.

Salads aren’t common in Asian concepts, but at Tanoshii Ramen + Bar in Dallas, the caprese salad inspired the staff to create one with tofu, which stands in for the cheese.
“This is a great starter because it also doubles as a vegan option,” says assistant manager Danilo Velas. “Customers love this dish and it has become a gateway to introducing tofu to people who don’t normally eat it.”
Seasonal Consideration: The menu item has become so popular that it’s become a staple, which works seamlessly at the Texas restaurant where tomatoes and basil are accessible year-round.
