U.S. Foodservice – Houston donates nearly 12,000 pounds
of food to celebrate the grand opening of the Houston Food Bank’s new warehouse
HOUSTON, Sept 23, 2011
As part of its continued commitment to hunger-relief efforts, U.S. Foodservice – Houston
today donated nearly 12,000 pounds of food to the Houston Food Bank. The donation
marks the grand opening of Houston Food Bank’s new 308,000 square foot warehouse.
To celebrate the opening, U.S. Foodservice – Houston will be joining other local
businesses that have made food donations in a convoy of trucks heading to the Houston
Food Bank’s new location as part of the “Fill the Warehouse” initiative.
“As a local business, we know the importance of helping to grow and strengthen the
community where we do business and we are thrilled to join the Houston Food Bank
in this initiative,” said Houston Division President, Steve Guberman. “Our support
for the Houston Food Bank is part of U.S. Foodservice’s longstanding, coast-to-coast
commitment to hungerrelief efforts in all the communities where we do business.”
Since partnering with the Houston Food Bank in 2008, U.S. Foodservice – Houston
has donated more than 1.2 million pounds of food. As a mission partner with Feeding
America, U.S. Foodservice has donated more than 22 million pounds of food nationally
since 2007 to ensure food banks across the country can continue serving their local
communities.
The Houston Food Bank works closely with many Houston-area hunger relief organizations
to provide food for pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other agencies.
The organization feeds 137,000 people each week and provides more than 70 million
pounds of food and prepared meals annually.
